How to Tie a Square Knot
By Bruce Wayne - Sep 5, 2024
Purpose and Use
The square knot, also called the reef knot, is great for quickly joining two ropes of similar size. It’s ideal for light-duty tasks like securing gear or tying bundles but not for critical or heavy loads, as it can slip under strain. It’s a simple yet reliable knot, especially for tasks where speed is key.

Tying the Knot
Start with one rope in each hand. First, cross the right over the left, then make a simple twist. Next, cross the left over the right and twist again. Finally, pull both ends tight to secure the knot.
